Spring has sprung early this year. The Humanist Association of Ottawa has decided to adopt a local park as part of our commitment to protecting the environment.
Our organization is agreeing to keep the park tidy by doing periodic cleanups for a period of two years. The City of Ottawa will put a sign in the park indicating that our organization has taken on this responsibility. The sign will read:
Humanists and Atheists in Ottawa
We will be doing our first cleanup on Saturday afternoon, April 17. We expect the cleanup to take less than an hour. Gloves and garbage bags will be supplied.
If you are interested in helping, please RSVP for the cleanup event here on Meetup.com
The park is called the Rideau River Nature Trail Park, and is located on the Rideau River behind the apartment building at 190 Lees Ave. We will meet in the park at 4 pm.
Once the park is looking beautiful, we will head to the Fox and the Feather at 283 Elgin St for some dinner, drinks, and general good times.
I hope lots of people will come out and be a part of this activity.
If the weather is bad, we will try to do the cleanup on the next day instead, Sunday April 18. If it’s raining on Sunday as well we’ll postpone the cleanup for a week or two.
